Should I seek a flexible or part-time schedule?
YES
Not so long ago, flexible schedules were dismissed out of hand. A part-time track is still an exception for women with young children, but now firms try to work things out among the lawyer, supervising partners and clients. Part-timers are usually women associates or junior partners who built solid reputations, books of business, or interesting niche practices in their early years at a firm, and who were granted part-time status after returning from maternity leave.

NO
Male part-timers are a rare indeed. The standard explanation from recruiters and associates is this: Male-dominated law firms believe that it’s OK for a woman to seek a flexible schedule for personal reasons. But a guy who seeks the same work flexibility is considered a little off-center.
