“When I was in private practice, I sometimes arrived
at the office looking at my watch and think, ‘Oh, my God, how
am I going to get through the rest of the day?’” – Sarah,
a former New York practitioner
The secret is out: many lawyers are professionally
unhappy ... tired of the stress, burnout, long hours, paper-pushing,
and hostility. This
lively, provocative book – the first to break the professional
code of silence back in the 1990s – features all the original
interviews with successful practitioners who left the law for greater
personal and financial rewards. This new edition includes the latest
Internet career and self-assessment resources for lawyers.
Here’s what the critics say ...

lessons and real warnings for those who are in to stay ... and those
dying to get out.” – Texas Bar Journal
“After reading this book, you might be performing a public service
by passing it along to some bright kid headed for law school.” – Wisconsin
Lawyer
“If you’re an unhappy lawyer, Arron’s book will provide
some reassurance, some strength, and maybe even some direction, for
your next career.” – California Lawyer

About the author
Deborah Arron was the first to write and speak openly
about career alternatives for lawyers. A Seattle civil litigator and
bar leader for
10 years, Ms. Arron left her practice, and set out to discover
why she and so many lawyers were unhappy with their careers. From
that research
came this first book, and subsequently launched Arron’s second
career as an author and national public speaker on behalf of lawyers
eager to make a mid-course correction in their careers.
